A Heart Check!

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Proverbs 4:7

Did you know that we can do something honorable and “good” and it NOT be pleasing to God? We can outwardly be doing what is right, but our hearts are hard and un-reverant (if this is eve a word? J). Seriously though, Don’t take my word for it; take HIS word! I was in the bathroom dancing, excited about a Sexual Purity event coming up and the Lord said so clearly; “Remember, you are not just sexually pure so that you can “gets you a man” or for my brothers “get you a fine boo”. What He was saying is, check your heart motive. If we are just doing this and our only intention is to get something out of it for us we have MISSED IT. Obedience is more than just doing what we are told to do; but Obedience is doing what God tells us to do in the way He told us to do it. I know you may be like, DAG, well at LEAST I'm doing what He told me to DO!!! But, Only wisdom could tell us this. He wants us to go deeper than surface.

I want to share this true story with you:

In 1 Samuel 15 we learn about specific instructions that the Lord gave to Saul, the king of Israel, to attack the Amalekites for evil they did to Israel. In verse 3, Saul is specifically told: “Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’” Then, we learn in verse 9 exactly what Saul did after he received instructions from the Lord: “But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs—everything that was good. These they were unwilling to destroy completely, but everything that was despised and weak they totally destroyed.
” To sum it all up, Saul ended up losing his position as King and God told him he would give it to someone else (King David). The Lord regretted that he had ever made Saul King.
Did you see that? In verse 9 Saul destroyed everything EXCEPT “everything that was good”, but the Lord had already given Him specific instructions to destroy it all. Saul even went on to say that he saved these things to sacrifice them to the Lord. In the natural, it seemed like outwardly he (Saul) did the right thing, but the Kingdom was stripped from him because of his disobedience.

Bro and sis; it aint worth it! The Lord has promised us no good thing will He withhold from us. He is looking for someone to believe Him; someone to Love Him. His love for you is strong and He wants you to experience HIS BEST; but this can only happen when we are walking with a pure heart. I have an assignment for you and me; a daily heart check! We can simply ask Him in our time of Prayer: “Lord search my heart and remove the uglies out of my heart. I know it may not feel good, but it’s worth the temporary pain just to be closer to you. I’m not going to make this decision based on what I feel, but on what YOU have said in your word!”

This true story tells us: If we are doing what is right or “good”, but our heart is not right it can lead to disappointment, sadness, defeat, a hardened heart or even spiritual death. That can be a tough pill to swallow BUT maybe that's why so many of us struggle with sin in the same areas for so long; we think that it's just something outward but our heart is really the area we need to be purified. So, if you have been doing what God has told you to do in certain area's of your life PRAISE GOD! Let's just make sure that our heart motive is pure <3.
